Retired. Artist, Ex-Geologist, Ex-Softwware Engineer, Ex-Surfer (because no waves here), Ex-Climber, Hiker and Fly Fisherperson.
My Blog is here.
Let me Introduce myself – I’m Todd and in the many detours I’ve had in my life, I now consider myself an artist.
I’ve been lucky enough to be able to quit the working life and move on to the next phase of my life. It’s not that big of a switch from Software Engineer to Artist as it takes learning and experimenting. The main different is in art, there is no failures. I’ve always wanted to do art, but it’s hard to earn a living at it and its always been presented as a hobby rather than a profession. Now I don’t have to worry about income so a hobby it is.
Did the normal things like get an education, started work, changed professions, got married, had kids, got divorced, got remarried and quit work altogether. Now I play at everything. That sums it up.
I’ve been very lucky in that I’ve enjoyed most of what I have done and now I’m enjoying hiking, artwork, fixing things and all on my own schedule. I’ve always believed in going forward as it’s not possible to live in the past. The past was great but going forward is where the future is, so on I go.
What makes life wonderful is going through it with my partner Bobbie and my great kids (all very different from each other). The days are filled with laughs, learning and doing things and trying not to get hurt (think Broken Ankles). Wonderful.
Currently living by Asheville, NC (what a funky place) after living in Park City, UT for 30 years (still have some roots there) and raising my kids. I was born in CA and grew up in Southern California on the beach and doing the surfer, college and climbing thing. My distant ancestors are from Scotland and arrived in the US (aka Utah) in the 1800’s. Before that who knows.

About My Past Experiences
Software Engineer
I’ve worked for a number of software companies over the years. From the early years to current technology (CyberSecurity). My focus was designing and implementation foundational applications (think UI) for most of them. Self taught from the beginning.
Geologist
A geologist by education and worked in the field for bit of time. Liked the science but not too fond of the positions. Geologists tend (including myself) to enjoy the field but then move to different field of study. I know a lot of ex-geologists.
SDSU
I guess I should put in something about my formal education which finished at SDSU (San Diego State University) with a BS in Geology.
